The one where it all begins

Updated: Jul 20, 2022

Hello and welcome!

My name is Leah and I am a Canadian Registered Nurse who’s been working through the pandemic in various acute and critical care settings. I think we can all agree that the difficulty settings in our lives and careers have exponentially increased over the past couple of years. I’ve been really fortunate to be surrounded by great mentors who have helped guide me through various stages in my career- from getting hired on in PACU as a very green new grad who had to learn how to care for critically ill patients and had to be taught how to set up her pension contributions all in the span of the same week, to changing my specialties completely to become an Emergency Department nurse and suddenly feeling like I knew nothing despite having 5 years of experience by that point.

What I’ve noticed is that the most valuable information on how to make my nursing journey easier didn’t come from nursing school, or new job orientation packages, or the endless stream of annual online education modules. I received the greatest hints, tips, tricks and “hacks” through chance conversations with co-workers and friends, or by scouring various nursing-related social media accounts and blogs.

My aim is to create a platform that serves as an online mentor for nurses at every stage in their career. This website will contain resources to help you pass the most difficult nursing school exams, tips and tricks on making the most overwhelming shifts manageable, but also topics that are not talked about nearly enough, such as personal finance and retirement planning, strategies for avoiding burnout that go beyond the “find a new job or a new career” advice, the art of setting personal and professional boundaries, and many other topics aimed at helping nurses make the most their career by working and living smarter, not harder.

Please follow my TikTok and Instagram accounts @savvyrnlife to stay updated on all the great content being posted. I am so excited to grow this community and hopefully make some positive impact in nurses’ lives.
